Dear Regional leaders of the Virginia campaign of Governor Gary Johnson:
Happy Thanksgiving, and here's to a pleasant holidays and start to 2012.
Short notice, but Governor Gary Johnson is hosting his next Yowie townhall tomorrow, Thursday, December 1st, at 8pm eastern, this time on social tolerance issues. Special guest is Jimmy LaSalvia, executive director of GOProud, a Republican equal rights group. The governor's social tolerance raises a big distinction with the other GOP candidates; too bad voters aren't allowed to see this difference in the debates. If you could forward to Gary Johnson supporters in your regional networks, we're encouraging folks to RSVP here. As usual, anyone can ask questions LIVE on video with the governor, and raise a little money in the process. (The campaign's invitation for tomorrow's event is below). After the last Yowie townhall (on the fair tax), the host professor wrote a blog against having more GOP debates, inserting praise for the governor. Here's video of that fairtax townhall with Professor Guttman.
As you no doubt know, the governor is thinking about bolting for the Libertarian Party nomination, due to the Republican Party's refusal to intercede on the media's exclusion of him from the polls, a cruel action denying him even the chance to qualify for the debates. Nevertheless, he continues to focus on New Hampshire's January primary, hoping for invitations to the remaining five debates. Your continued assistance in the campaign is appreciated. Here's video of him discussing his options with NM reporters, on Fox with Neil Cavuto, on WMAL in DC, and with Coy Barefoot's Charlottesville show. Dave Weigel at Slate nailed the Gary Johnson Rule used to discriminate against our favorite candidate.
To that end, Juanita Billings is leading some of us Tuesday to a DC protest to get some more of the 10,000 signatures required by December 22nd. A "meetup" RSVP has the information if you would like to help us, even though, honestly, we're only 1/10th of the way to our goal with only a couple weeks left. Let's face it, we didn't have enough committed volunteers, and the fact that non-debate inclusion left our voters with no familiarity of the candidate made this project an almost insurmountable one. I have no criticism, only praise for those that did what we could under the circumstances, and I deeply thank all of you for making this an honorable test. For more info on Tuesday's protest petitioning, email our Fredericksburg volunteer Juanita Billings, at officeworks@cavtel.net. For those of you who've notarized the petitions you've completed, please mail them to me as soon as possible at the address below.
Beyond petitioning, selling our campaign to friendly groups continues to be a priority, so please let me know whenever you have success in this area. I had a nice evening last night with the Students for Liberty chapter at my alma mater, the College of William and Mary, speaking about the campaign. If you post evidence of your work at the VA FB page, I'll include it in these periodic emails as well. Credit is important, and volunteers want to see action and results!
Thank you for sticking with the campaign - we all can agree probably that the situation requires no less!
Charlie
P.S. Please join and invite other Virginia residents to join our state campaign Facebook page and state campaign Meetup Group.
P.P.S. To be a volunteer leader in Virginia, help us please gather the 10,000 signatures required to add the governor to the March 6 primary, with either a legal or letter sized petition. Simply click on the link to print out your preferred size (legal's easier, requiring fewer notarizations), write "Gary E. Johnson" at the top, copy front and back, and bring on a legal sized clipboard several copies so eligible voters can sign the petition according to their city or county. Once finished, kindly get the petition notarized at your bank or library and mail by December 10th (in order for me to make the December 22nd deadline) to:
